theemitter: yaruo: petapeta: 米空軍、史上初のステルスカーを初公開 - Technobahn 米空軍は1日、米空軍の技術を結集して開発を進めてきた史上初のステルスカー「ベイパー（Vapor）」を初公開した。 クライスラー社製のスポーツカー「ダッジ・チャレンジャー」をベースに車体をカーボンファイバーで作り直した上で更に、レーダー波吸収用の特殊なステルスコーティングを施したもので、レーダーからの隠蔽を可能とするだけでなく「サイレントモード」で走行させた場合、走行時のエンジン音さえも消して無音走行も可能なため、黒い車体とも相まって夜間に走行した場合、周囲からまったく気づかれることなしに走行することが可能という特徴を持つ。 ただし、ステルス性向上のため、ウィンドウ部分にまで黒いステルスコーティングが施されており、運転はダッシュボードの計器パネル部分に設置された外部モニター画面を通じて行うなどの制約もある。 米空軍ではフォード・マスタングをベースに戦闘機で採用されている射出座席（Ejection seat）を備え、戦闘機のようにスティックを使って運転する車両も同時に製作。米空軍の広報活動の一環として開催予定のイベント「2009 Supercar Tour」でこの2台のスーパーカーを使った全米興行ツアーを行う予定だと説明している。
